My technology philosophy...
As a teacher, technology can no longer be seen as an add on in the classroom; it is now a fundamental part of the way we live and learn. I make a connection between technology and the enduring understanding of students. When this connection is made, students will have the opportunity to reach their highest potential.
My experience with technology in the classroom...
I have a strong focus on how the 21st Century learning environment will prepare students for the future. I am skilled in Web 2.0 and 3.0 tools and I integrate technology into my lessons using the following:
*Document Camera (Elmo)
*Promethean Board with ActiveInspire
*Apple TV
*One-to-one iPads for students in the classroom
*Learning apps on the iPad including: IXL, XtraMath, Reading A-Z, DreamBox, and Spelling City.
*Assessment Tool: InfuseLearning.com
*Learning Management System: Edmodo
*Paren/Teacher Communication: Remind 101, Classroom Website
*Classroom Behavior System: Classroom Dojo
I am driven and committed to stay current on how teaching strategies
and technology in the classroom are always evolving.
Why do I put a strong emphasis on integrating technology into my lessons?
1. Technology defines goals and gives students timely feedback.
*Word processing applications, such as Microsoft Word and Google Docs can be used to make KWL charts, which help to define teaching goals.
*Organizing and brainstorming software, such as Popplet, and Inspiration/Kidspiration allows students to create their own personalized brainstorming webs, which can be saved, edited, and shared.
*Rubrics are essential for teachers to provide when defining goals and expectations to students, but they can be difficult and timely to design. Technology allows online websites such as RubiStar to be easily accessed. These sites provide generic rubrics in a format that can be customized.
*Data collection and analysis tools like InfuseLearning, SurveyMonkey, Socrative, and eClicker allow me to create surveys, quizzes, and polls, which not only reveal what the students understand but provide both the students and myself with instant feedback.
2. Technology extends and applies student's knowledge.
*Technology can facilitate group collaboration, provide structure for group tasks, and allow members of groups to communicate even if they are not working face to face. Multimedia creation programs students can use include; PowerPoint, Prezi, Keynote, Glogster, iMovie, and VoiceThread.
*The use of instructional media, which are technologies that provide or assist the creation of videos or recordings, can also strengthen students understandings. Examples of instructional media include; BrainPOP, Discovery Education Streaming, Safari Montage, and Khan Academy.
*Applications that can help students brainstorm, problem solve, create, and collect information together include; TypeWith.me, TitanPad, FaceTime, Syncpad, and Google Calendar.
